The Power Of Motivation

Alas, the cold, snowy stuff has landed. It is almost time to admit hibernation and snuggle down with some yummy food, a good book and a soft blanket.

Ah but what about your workouts?

This is the time of year when stripping down to your shortest shorts becomes rather difficult. Proper warm ups become even more essential and a strong desire to improve does as well.

You know, there are pros and cons to working from home.

Pro: As this lovely, fluffy snow envelops my house, I get to sit at my desk with a hot bowl of soup, a fuzzy blanket and the happy knowledge that I don’t have to leave my house for the next five days *sigh* I love life ๐Ÿ˜‰

Cons: I bake a lot and my house is constantly full of yummy things to consume. Not to mention the idea of removing my fuzzy blanket and stripping down to shorts is not as appealing as you may think!

So what’s the trick? How do you indulge, stay lean and enjoy the comforts of hibernation?

Last week an old client of mine sent me a picture (below). As I opened my phone, I stared wide eyed at it. “Holy eff, look at those abs!” Not to say that this client was so far away from them last time I saw her, but a bag of chips and a few beers might have had pretty high priority at the time.

So how did she do it? Why all of a sudden is this lovely lady ripped and still pushing? Because she realized how much she wanted those abs. I wish I could explain how proud of her I was looking at that picture. She did it. She clearly put in some time, effort and consistency and her result is looking amazing.

So back to the task at hand, how do I enjoy the comforts of being in my house all day without a slowly growing food belly?

I have to strip down each day in front of clients. I post videos and pictures everywhere online. I look at pictures of myself at my peak and think “damn I looked good”- That is my motivation.

As shallow as it may sound, I love being lean. I love that hard earned results show. Am I looking to get down to competition weight and maintain it? Hell no. But I do love being able to strip down and feel cocky.

So even on the coldest of days, my short shorts make an appearance. Even on days when I feel I would much rather eat cookies, brownies and ice cream, I chose veggies and protein. Why? Because to me the feeling of stripping down and wanting to show off is worth it.

That may not be enough for everybody, but it is for me. The thing is, motivation has a strong hold over you. Some people are motivated by positive things (feeling cocky) while others by negative things (revenge). But no matter the source, motivation at its peak can be the strongest pull in the world. If you want it bad enough you will do everything. In. Your. Power. To see you get it.

So while my goal may not be the same as yours, find your motivator. Find something what pushes you. Find something that you would go to the end of the world for- and hold onto it.
